Fatal Accidents Act bereavement damages – still an insult?

The Ministry of Justice has just published its response to the consultation paper ‘The Law on Damages’ which was originally published on 4 May 2007. The Law Society Gazette quotes APIL president John McQuater as saying

The government hasn’t understood that the current level of bereavement damages is seen as an insult by many people.

What do you think? Is £11,800 an appropriate amount.
